Kenllre (pronounced “kinarura”, somehow), is a largely forgotten mid 2000s fringe visual kei band that managed an OK fanbase due to a couple of good songs and a reputation for the occasional food-themed performance. This song, Tabekko Doubutsu (a brand of animal crackers in Japan) is a very silly but also gross song about eating exotic and pet animals. I was struck by this band and song a long time ago when an old livejournal friend saw them live and told me about this song being performed while vocalist James ate a whole spread of food very messily; the mental image has lived rent-free with me since. In summary, Kenllre were the first and only(?) mukbang-kei band.

Lyrics/Music Kenllre
lala, squishy, sticky, drippy
lala, crunch, gulp, lick
mix together cat eyes and dog guts – meatball
pop a chihuahua into the microwave and spin – hotdog
we eat cows and pigs, why won’t you let me eat dogs and cats?
so sweet and sad and tasty…
wanna eat stag beetle, wanna eat antlion
wanna eat panda, wanna eat giraffe
it’s so gourmet, overflowing tears from my mouth
lala, squishy, sticky, drippy
lala, crunch, gulp, lick
crush white butterfly and caterpillar – fresh cream
pickle a shiba in salt and wring it out – salty dog
every day ingredients don’t suit my palate
come to think of it, i’ve tasted everything…
wanna eat bat, wanna eat peacock
wanna eat polar bear, wanna eat anteater
it’s so gourmet, my bottomless appetite
