quarter life

music & lyrics / Hazuki

the evening sky shines on your hanged body
hey, why did you leave us?

don’t take anything more from me, i don’t want to lose it
for whose sake? will i find out?

there’s no answer

a cracked world crumbles without a sound
that voice now unable to reach

an end obtained without hesitation
with the weakness of seeking help

if there’s a wonderful light there,
hey, maybe someday i’ll smile with you again

a cracked world crumbles without a sound
now that voice is

swaying, dancing
in the shadow of flickering stars

even so, fight on your own now
even so, just as you have

live

This song is a deeply personal song that Hazuki wrote after a friend of his and staff member of one of his prior bands committed suicide. (He wrote about this in his blog at the time, but unfortunately no archive exists.) In UNDERNEATH_FILES VOL. 1, he says: “The lyrics are the cries of those left behind… but it’s complicated. I was at my rock bottom mentally, when I wrote this, but now it’s a very important song.” The title, suggested by Reo, is meant to represent his youth at the time of his death, as he was only able to live out a quarter of his life.

This song is referenced lyrically and musically in the song SCARLET.
